I’m always one of the first to jump on the anti-Black Eyed Peas train, but I’m a sucker for success stories and videos of music creation. This Will.I.Am video makes so much sense of where all the BEP’s brainhog tracks come from. It’s fascinating how such a basic loop can turn into the #1 song in the world. That said, now it’s time for an easier contest than the last one.
Step 1: Watch this video in its entirety
Step 2: Leave your favorite part in the comments
We’ll randomly select 2 winners to get either a $100 Ticketmaster Gift Certificate or $100 iTunes Gift Certificate. If it seems like you only watched the first few minutes, the randomnness will not be in your favor.
Say thanks to Gillette!

A glimpse into the genius, Will. I. Am. Someone who has WORKED to get where he is…someone who is genuinely interested in the world and how his gift relates.
EXCELLENT WORK!!
My favorite part was him rolling out of his garage in his Ferrari after talking about making some of his own clothes to match his outfits. You would think that anyone who drives a Ferrari can pay someone to make them clothes that match their outfits.
favorite part is him admiting his fear of failure when testing new beats (even in a small club). His self awareness and general modesty is what enables him to ultimately rock a 100k plus show at the Rose Bowl with no worries – he’s already beta tested his material, he knows they like it.
“This ain’t no costume, dis is my clothes!”
my favorite part was the complete lack of Fergie in the video
My favorite part was when he’s talking about how he makes the beats and puts the music together before writing the song. To hear someone talk so passionately about their craft is inspiring. He’s a great artist…with great talent.
My favorite part was that Will.I.Am owns a desktop mannequin which apparently serves as testing grounds to see whether or not certain collaborations of hats, jewelry and sunglasses are worthy of being tried on in person. But hey, that’s what makes him an artist. He sees everything around him as a canvas. Before him, William was just William.
Nice flick Gillette.
I was impressed by the raw style of the film itself and how both the editing and direction lent to the portrayal of Will.I.AM as an artist. I don’t think the story would have meant as much if the video showcasing it was lame. Cutting edge film making for a cutting edge entertainer, all under the 7 min mark. Great Video!
So impressed that success doesn’t keep him isolated . . . Will.I.AM takes his work to the club “lab” to see what reactions he gets. Pays attention to his audience and works to engage them. Thanks for showing us what’s behind the curtain.
I am impressed that he still hits the clubs after a 100k crowd to stay in touch with what new stuff people react to.
My favorite part was that the Black Eyed Peas can suck it. And don’t pretend you don’t totally love them.
Best parts of this video?
1) It’s over
2) The offer from Yep Yep
My favorite part is how he knows how popular he is as part of the Pea’s but he is worried about failure on his own. It’s like the p’s are his comfort blanket and he is afraid of failing on his own. I also like in the beginning he states “the music we make is colorless” and the whole video is basically shot in the colorless antiqued appearance. Success is what you make it, and keeping up with what is going on around you and the fads of todays music is one of his biggest successes. Will.I.am is a multi-talented person and I thank you all for sharing this private side of a huge star. He is not too big to head out to the club and play for the crowds as a DJ. He will be around a long time….
